“We had a massive silver maple come down during the ice storm and it landed on our fence line, dangerously close to the power line running to our garage. I called Axe & Wedge at 11pm expecting to leave a voicemail and someone actually answered. They were at our house by 7am the next morning. The crew was professional, worked incredibly safely around the line, and had everything cleared by noon. They even patched up the fence temporarily. Absolutely outstanding service when we needed it most.”

“We hired Axe & Wedge to remove three large Norway spruce trees that had outgrown our property and were starting to lift the foundation on one side of the house. From the initial quote to the final cleanup, everything was handled perfectly. The arborist explained exactly what they were going to do and why, the crew worked efficiently without disturbing the rest of our garden, and they left the site spotless. The price was fair and they stuck to the quote exactly. Highly recommend.”

“I needed four acres cleared for a new build and was getting wildly different quotes. Axe & Wedge came in, walked the property with me, explained their process clearly, and gave a detailed written quote. They brought a large crew and had the entire lot clear in two days — way faster than I expected. Stumps ground, brush chipped, all debris hauled off. The site was build-ready. Already recommended them to two other people I know doing builds in the area.”

Everything you need to know before hiring a tree service.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Axe & Wedge Tree Works Ltd. carries comprehensive general liability insurance ($5 million+) and WSIB coverage for all crew members. We are members of both the ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) and TCIA (Tree Care Industry Association), which require ongoing education and adherence to the highest industry standards. We're happy to provide proof of insurance before any work begins.
Do you offer free quotes?
Absolutely. All quotes are completely free and come with no obligation whatsoever. We schedule an on-site visit so our arborist can assess the trees in person and provide an accurate, written estimate. We don't do drive-by or phone quotes for tree work — there are too many variables that affect safety and pricing. Most quotes are scheduled within 2–3 business days.
How fast can you respond to a tree emergency?
We maintain 24/7 emergency coverage for situations involving imminent risk to people or property. For genuine emergencies — a tree on your house, a tree blocking a road, or a dangerous situation following a storm — we aim to have a crew on-site within a few hours. During major storm events when we're managing high call volumes, wait times may be longer, but we triage by urgency and always respond as quickly as possible.
What areas do you service?
We serve all of Simcoe County and surrounding regions, including Barrie, Collingwood, Midland, Penetanguishene, Orillia, Wasaga Beach, Tiny Township, Springwater, Severn, Oro-Medonte, Innisfil, Georgian Bay, Honey Harbour, Port Severn, Victoria Harbour, Waubaushene, Wyevale, and select Muskoka projects. Contact us to confirm service to your location.
Do you clean up after the job?
Yes, complete cleanup is included in all our tree services. We chip all brush and small debris on-site, and all logs, stumps (if grinding is included), and wood chips are removed from your property unless you request otherwise. Many clients ask us to leave the wood chips as mulch, which we're happy to do. We rake the area and leave your property as clean — or cleaner — than we found it.
What is stump grinding and does it fully remove the stump?
Stump grinding uses a rotating cutting wheel with carbide teeth to physically chip the stump into wood chips and sawdust, grinding it down 8–12 inches below the soil surface. This is deep enough for lawn restoration, planting, or paving over the site. The main lateral roots will remain in the ground and decay naturally over the years, but they won't interfere with typical use of the area. For projects requiring full root removal (such as poured concrete), we offer root grubbing as an additional service.
When is the best time to prune trees?
For most deciduous trees, late winter (February through early April) is the ideal pruning window — trees are dormant, pests and pathogens are inactive, and the crew has better visibility without leaves. That said, deadwooding and hazard pruning can and should be done year-round as needed; waiting until the 'right season' to address a dangerous dead limb is never recommended. Some species like oaks and elms should specifically avoid summer pruning to prevent disease entry. Our arborists will advise on the best timing for your specific trees.
How do I know if my tree is a hazard?
Common warning signs include: large dead branches in the crown, a significant lean that has developed recently, cracks or splits in the main trunk or major limbs, fungal growth (mushrooms or conks) at the base or on the trunk, hollow cavities in the trunk, roots that appear damaged or disturbed, and a history of branch failures. If you notice any of these signs, it's worth having a qualified arborist assess the tree before the next windstorm. We offer complimentary hazard assessments as part of our quote process.
Do you offer financing for larger tree projects?
Yes. We partner with Financeit to offer flexible payment plans for larger projects — everything from tree removals to lot clearing and crane work. You can finance from $100 to $100,000 with no hidden fees, transparent terms, and fast pre-qualification that won't impact your credit score. Monthly installment options are available. Ask us about financing when you receive your quote, or visit our contact page to get started.
